Successful Weekend for Bears

The Bears were back in action after the break with wins in all grades.

B Reserve won a tight game 5-4 against NW Titans at Melton. Veteran, Matt Connell hit his first ever home run with contributions in offence from Dan Vella and Matt Taylor. Bears B Reserve coach Chris Dunn pitched the entire game and was thrilled with the tight infield along with a great outfield catch to Stephen Broad.

C Grade Red were well served by Paul Cameron who pitched all 5 inning's at home against Deakin in the Bears 8-0 win. Defence was rock solid with outfielders catching everything that came their way. Hits to Paul Cameron, Herb Goonan, Marc Weakley, Tom Lauder and David Hambrook.

C Grade Blue had a hard task against Ballarat with a couple of blowout inning giving Ballarat a 26-1 win. Heather Nicol consistently threw strikes with Ballarat making the most of some defensive slips. Phoebe Jakubzik came on to finish the game and also threw well.

A Grade played Sunday at Deakin scoring a 6-2 win on the back of Matt Sage (last week’s Geelong Winter Carnival MVP) doing an outstanding job pitching 6 innings. Bears plated 4 runs in the second inning putting pressure on the opposition and a 2 run homer from Cameron Brown in the 5th inning helped bring the game home. Lewis Weldon with 3 hits for the day, 2 to Cameron Brown and hits to Brock Wells, Simon Murry and Kris Kiefel.

A Reserve had a 5-3 win over Deakin, and while Bears are 6th on the ladder, they are only 1 win behind top place Guild. A strong performance on the mound from Josh Crotty pitching the entire game. Defence was excellent with some great catches from Cooper Tipping, Matt Bellingham, Tayla Weldon and Sam Lazarus.

Lets see if we can back it up next week.
