A Grade came up against a spirited Guild Lions outfit who found their mojo with the bat right from the first inning. They were never in trouble after scoring 5 in the first, but went on to score 15 runs without giving up a run to the Bears over 6 innings to finish the game early under the mercy rule.
A-Reserve lost a close game at the Geelong baseball centre with Guild plating 2 runs in their last inning to take a 4-3 win. Matt Sage pitched the entire game and was unlucky not to get the win, or at least a draw.
B-Reserve were at home to Guild Lions in a hit fest for both teams with Bears making more of their opportunities to post a 23-6 win. Matt Taylor with 5 hits and 6 RBI’s, Finn Ferguson-Cumming 3 hits and 2 RBI’s and new player Ridley Moreland with 3 hits and 4 RBI’s including a game ending triple. Matt Connell, backed by solid defence was able to restrict Guild to just 6 runs. Peter Hockey closed out the last inning with 2 strikeouts. The win leaves Bears B-reserve in second place.
C Grade Blue headed to Colac where Heather Nicol again pitched well. Bears scored 10 runs off some terrific stealing and regular hitting including Steph Stott with 2 outfield hits. Colac came out on top in this encounter though scoring 19.
C Grade Red played away on Sunday against the undefeated Corio. The mostly young team equipped themselves very well getting hits throughout the order. Paul Cameron did an outstanding job on the mound through 5 inning and Marc Weakley had his first pitching duties in the 6th without giving up a run. Bears went down 6-5 but showed that they are capable of a finals birth.
